NMR Relaxation Tools for Dairy Products – Workshop

Exploring the integration of TD-NMR and FFC-NMR methods for advanced dairy analysis in this workshop

From 23 to 25 February 2026, researchers and professionals joined the online workshop NMR Relaxation Tools for Improving and Protecting Quality of Dairy Products, organized within the framework of the NMR IMPROV project.

The workshop focused on the complementary use of Time-Domain NMR (TD-NMR) and Fast Field Cycling NMR (FFC-NMR) relaxation techniques, highlighting how the integration of these two methodologies can provide deeper insights into food quality, structure, and authenticity.

The sessions explored practical and methodological aspects of combining TD-NMR and FFC-NMR data for food applications, with particular attention to dairy products and relaxometry-based analytical workflows.

Understanding the Link Between TD-NMR and FFC-NMR

One of the core objectives of the workshop was to demonstrate how TD-NMR and FFC-NMR can work together to improve the interpretation of relaxation data in complex food systems.

Key discussion topics included:

  • Combining relaxation data from TD-NMR and FFC-NMR methods
  • Applications of integrated NMR relaxometry approaches in food products
  • Selection of experimental parameters for joint NMR studies
  • Improving data interpretation and analytical reliability
  • Practical challenges in relaxometry workflows

The workshop highlighted the growing importance of integrated NMR methodologies for modern food science and quality assessment.

Stelar Contributions: Hardware, Software, and Relaxometry Innovation

During the workshop, Stelar experts contributed with presentations focused on both hardware and software developments in NMR relaxometry.

Imran Sarwar – Hardware Engineer

Imran Sarwar presented the talk:

“NMR relaxation tools for improving and protecting quality of dairy products”

The presentation explored how FFC-NMR relaxation technology can support the characterization and protection of dairy product quality.

Edoardo Pinna – Software Engineer

Edoardo Pinna presented:

“Storm6 Enhancement through OneFitEngine Integration: Advanced Fitting and Noise Debiasing in NMR Relaxometry”

The talk focused on recent developments in Storm6, highlighting the integration of OneFitEngine to improve advanced fitting procedures and noise debiasing strategies in NMR relaxometry data analysis.

The presentation demonstrated how software innovation can enhance data quality, reproducibility, and interpretation in TD-NMR and FFC-NMR experiments.

Advanced NMR Technologies for Food Quality and Authentication

Applications of NMR relaxometry in dairy and food science continue to grow thanks to their ability to provide non-destructive and highly informative analysis of complex systems.

Integrated TD-NMR and FFC-NMR approaches can support:

  • Dairy quality assessment
  • Food authentication and traceability
  • Structural characterization of food matrices
  • Water dynamics analysis
  • Process monitoring and optimization
  • Advanced relaxometry data interpretation

These methodologies are becoming increasingly valuable for both research and industrial quality control applications.

Stelar SRL is proud to have contributed through presentations focused on both hardware and software innovation, reinforcing our commitment to advancing NMR relaxometry technologies for food quality, data analysis, and scientific research. We would ike to thank all the organizers for this interesting workshop!
