A three-day hybrid workshop organized by Stelar focusing on FFC-NMR, TD-NMR, and advanced relaxometry data analysis techniques
From 17 to 19 September 2025, Stelar SRL organized the hybrid workshop Advances in NMR Relaxometry Data Analysis and Methods, held within the framework of the NMR IMPROV MSCA project.
The event brought together researchers, lecturers, and early-stage scientists working in the field of NMR relaxometry, with a shared interest in improving how complex relaxation data is interpreted and applied in real scientific contexts.
At the core of the workshop was the complementarity between Fast Field Cycling NMR (FFC-NMR) and Time-Domain NMR (TD-NMR), and how combining these two approaches can lead to a more complete understanding of relaxation phenomena in complex systems.
Rather than focusing only on theory, the workshop was designed as an interactive environment where discussion, comparison of approaches, and practical insights played a central role.
Exploring methods for modern NMR relaxometry analysis
Across the three days, participants explored different aspects of NMR relaxometry data analysis, with a focus on how experimental choices and modelling approaches influence the final interpretation of results.
Key discussions included how relaxation data is processed and analysed, how experimental parameters should be selected depending on sample behaviour, and how results from FFC-NMR and TD-NMR can be interpreted in a complementary way. The workshop also addressed common challenges in fitting strategies and the modelling of complex relaxation profiles.
Storm6 and real-time data analysis
A central part of the workshop was dedicated to Storm6, Stelar’s integrated platform for real-time TD-NMR and FFC-NMR acquisition and data analysis.
During dedicated sessions, participants were introduced to how real-time monitoring of relaxation experiments can support a more immediate understanding of data, and how integrated workflows can simplify the transition from raw acquisition to interpretable results.
The demonstrations highlighted how software tools like Storm6 can improve both efficiency and reproducibility in NMR relaxometry experiments, particularly when dealing with complex or multiparametric datasets.
An international and multidisciplinary exchange
The workshop also served as a meeting point for researchers from different scientific backgrounds, reflecting the increasingly multidisciplinary nature of NMR relaxometry.
Applications discussed during the event included food science, biomolecular systems, hydrocolloids, materials science, and porous media, showing how relaxation-based NMR techniques are used across a wide range of research fields.
This diversity of perspectives contributed to a productive exchange between participants and helped strengthen connections within the NMR IMPROV consortium and the broader scientific community.
